Overview
Our ATR 42/72 type rating course is completed on the ATR 72-600 variant. The full course consists of three phases:
The Theoretical Knowledge and Synthetic Flight training Phases take a total of approximately 5 weeks. Aircraft training normally takes place on the operators own aircraft and is scheduled according to aircraft availability.
Difference and Familiarity training is available for other variants.
Entry Requirements
Part-FCL minimum requirements prior to commencement of training are:
Groundschool
ATR theoretical knowledge training is a full time, 12-day course completed at the Skyblue training facility at Exeter Airport.
Training is completed using a combination of instructor-led Computer Based Training, formal classroom instruction and 20 hours instruction in the Skyblue Basic Systems and Procedures Trainer (BSPT).
Unlike many other training organisations, our theoretical knowledge instructors are current or former ATR type rated pilots with considerable experience of commercial air transport operations. They are able to offer a personalised, hands-on approach to teaching which will enable trainees to reach their full potential.
Our CBT software is provided by Avsoft. Trainees will have access to the CBT 14 days prior to commencement of the course for a period of 60 days. This gives the trainee opportunity for pre-course study and to consolidate their systems knowledge through individual self-study following completion of the course.
The theoretical knowledge training phase includes:
*Please note that we may also be able to conduct the course at the customers own facility overseas subject to relevant approvals.
Simulator
The synthetic flight training phase of the type rating course currently takes place on Level ‘D’ Full Flight Simulators based at training locations in Ireland or France.
All training is performed by our own highly experienced instructors.
This phase of the course typically takes around 10 days to complete and consists of 32 hours of simulator instruction followed by a 4-hour Licence Skill Test.
Aircraft
Aircraft training consists of a minimum of six landings* and will be organised as soon as possible after the Licence Skills Test (LST).
The duration of training is one day which will include a course debrief. Companies may use their own instructor for this. Alternatively, Skyblue is able to provide a TRI to complete the aircraft training requirement on the company’s own aircraft.
* Pilots having 500 hours previous experience on flying on turbo-props with a MTOW greater than 10 tonnes will have to complete 4 landings.
500 Variant
Initial type rating training can also be conducted on the ATR 72 (non-PEC) variant. Please contact us for details.
